In 1992 Santo Domingo the oldest city in Americas celebrated its 500th anniversary and discovery by Christopher Columbus. Caribbean Route invite you to discover Santo Domingo, where are the first cathedral, university and town hall of the new world. The entire city center is crammed with colonial building from the 15th and 16th centuries in this tour you´ll not only visit the most important historical buildings but also some museums and the fascinating cave. Is the first stop where you will see one of the most important Dominican niters home; (the Tainos); walk in to a cave, find tree thermic lakes, learn about Tainos life. Then go directly to Columbus Lighthouse, built in 1992 on the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in the New World. We’re then off to the oldest streets of the Western Hemisphere in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. Be ready to walk and take your best picture starting at the Colonial City, get in to the Columbus Palace. Completed in 1514, this was the home of Christopher Columbus’s son, Don Diego. From the Palace we walk through the historic Plaza de Espana and on to Calle Las Damas (the first paved street of the New World). Keep walking to that national pantheon where heroes rest lay and the First Cathedral of the New World. After the colonial tour we invite you to a Dominican typical restaurant where you will taste our local menu feeling the energy of our music and folklore. Note: this tour offers an optional time for shopping, if you decide do any other thin instead of shop, please be according with the tour guide.
